How this was made:

This beautiful dragon was handsculpted with polymer clay around a wire armature, with multiple glass cabochon eyes fixed into her body. She was then painted with gold and blue mica powders before being coated in epoxy resin, to ensure maximum strength and durability of her limbs.

Personality:

After the turmoil that was 2020, many of us are finding ourselves wishing we could see if the year ahead will be better. It’s this striving to see, to know, that inspired the creation of this new dragon ‘Iris’. With her many eyes there is not a single thing that escapes her, and her most important “third eye” in the middle of her forehead, allows her to glimpse into the future.

Her design was also inspired by the peacock butterfly, and the extra eyes present in the creatures of the fantasy world of "Pandora" from James Cameron's "Avatar" (see 6th picture)! The peacock butterfly is one of the many moths, butterflies and catapillars that have evolved "eyespots", and one theory is that potentially this was for the purpose of intimidating predators.

"It's thought that eyespots simply mimic the eyes of predators. In this case they act as a deterrent to predators, making attackers think they are suddenly facing a larger and potentially dangerous animal. Some butterflies and moths have their eyespots hidden on their hindwings and will flash predators a startling glimpse of them."

With this in mind, "Iris" could certainly be viewed as a dragon of protection, also against the evil eye (which is a curse cast by an envious glare, that can be broken by wearing or having near you eye symbols to ward it off).

So if you're looking for protection, knowledge and wisdom as we enter this year of 2021, this dragon is certainly the one for you.

Extra (important!) information:

Standard shipping is always free! :D However, unfortunately those outside the UK must pay extra for postage if they want it to be tracked, and UK customers must pay extra if they want their order sent by special delivery guarenteed, (the only option that offers tracking information) otherwise shipping costs can be too expensive for me to cover just in the price of an item alone. I would HIGHLY recommend (especially in this time of covid 19 bringing chaos to our postal services) that both UK and US customers pay for the shipping option that offers tracking, as if not, there will be no way for us to find where your package has gone if it gets lost or delayed on its way to you. I cannot accept responsibility, nor give out refunds or replacements, for items lost in the mail if you did not select the tracked option at checkout. Once a package leaves my hands at the post office, it is completely out of my control.
